These folks are great. There are a million other great resources, but these are the ones I'd recommend for new developers.

About Dan

I am an experienced senior web developer working in the nonprofit space. I strive to solve problems and create solid, enjoyable user experiences using the best-available technologies. I'm all about building for the user, whether specific internal tools geared at optimizing staff workflows and processes, or public-facing sites and apps focused on serving members, customers, donors, learners and anyone interested in improving their use of technology in their work.

CORE SKILLSET:

  • Next.js
  • JavaScript
  • WordPress (custom themes & plugins)
  • HTML/CSS
  • React
  • React Native
  • Material Design (MUI)
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Node/Express
  • PHP
  • Advanced Linux systems administration and web server management
  • Lightning Web Components
  • Apex
  • mySQL
  • MongoDB
  • GraphQL

I use these tools and skills to build apps and integrations in Wordpress (headless and coupled), Salesforce, NimbleAMS and many other platforms/integrations. I have a background in Java development and remain relatively fluent in the language.

My past, non-development-specific experience is wide-ranging, from community journalism to project management to social media strategy. I started out in community newspapers, as a reporter and editor. Later I joined a start-up that built web applications for public radio and television stations, where I managed an online, syndicated newsroom and helped craft a community engagement and social networking application for public broadcasting fans. In the process, I've also coded apps for NPR's Car Talk, one of my favorite gigs ever.

I am the former Vice President of Media at One Economy Corp., a multinational non-profit that worked in global digital inclusion.
